FAQ
When will WiiRd be released?
If things are going according to plan we have a release in early June. We promised to have it published by the end of May but as of now some minor delays are in the process cycle - and well, the WiiRd handler also needs to be added to the Gecko Loader as well as Region Free. Additionally we have to design a little logo and need some beta testers.
Will WiiRd be compatible with GCT codes of the current Gecko loader?
No! WiiRd introduces a new code system. However, this code system will be discussed and presented before the actual release of WiiRd - it will be completely backwards compatible just the code types are different - old GCT codes however can all be converted! We’ll also be preparing a special sheet for users of the old system how to simply convert their old codes to the new system.
Is WiiRd usable for Gamecube games?
The first version we’re gonna release will be not compatible - at least officially. We’ve already booted Gamecube games with the standard USBGecko tools and then tried to do code searches and general things. It theoretically works yet some features are critical to use (like dump the MEM2 area - 90000000 to 93800000 - to receive an immediate crash). Therefore: WiiRd is intended to be used for Wii games and that’s the only thing we support right now.
On which operating systems does WiiRd work?
WiiRd is developed for Windows 2000 and XP. Windows Vista should also work fine. Windows 98 and ME are unsupported due to several reasons (No native USB 2.0 support, no real FTDI2 driver, GUI as of now does not properly work - if you feel happy just using the wiird console - go ahead).
Can I use WiiRd and the Gecko Tool side by side?
This should work.
What methods can I use to run the WiiRd loader?
We succesfully tested the Twilight Exploit as well as the Homebrew channel. There are several other loading methods which also work - practially all homebrew loading methods should do!
Can I take screenshots in the same manner I was able to with GCNrd?
Screenshots work completely - WiiRd GUI tries to auto detect 16:9 (widescreen) or 4:3 (fullscreen) - if the auto-detection fails the user can set it manually. Screenshots are tested and supported in all PAL modes (PAL50, PAL60, 480p) and should also work in all NTSC modes.
I have questions?
Write a comment to this page, write a post at kodewerx or at the USBGecko forums - we’ll happily answer questions and take over additional Qs here ^^.
