WiiRd for Linux

May 19, 2009 – 11:40

It was requested often. I now compiled some binaries for Linux operating systems. Please note that those come without a GUI or anything fancy. You get the WiiRd console! That’s it. It will work just as the Windows version does.

Please feel free to download the binaries for x86 and amd64 platforms at the download page. Source code will be released shortly!

Code Manager 1.2

May 19, 2009 – 11:30

So well.. it was time.. I did a minor round up of the code manager..

Changes are:

  • Name change.. the name Ocarina was removed all it does is leading to confusion
  • stores to /data/gecko/codes
  • if the publisher ID is 00 then it is striped out (assumes virtual console game)
  • game id length of 4 is acceptable
  • XP manifest
  • refreshes drive list when you open the save window (hotplug support)
  • 256 line error was transformed to a 256 line warning - meaning that you can ignore it if you know what you’re doing!

Other than that.. nothing should have changed!

Download at: http://wiird.l0nk.org/wp/download
Binary and Source code is availible.

Gecko 1.9

April 27, 2009 – 10:56

brkirch came up with his newest master piece Gecko 1.9

What’s New:

  • Added channel loading with hooks, channel menu supports same database.txt format as AnyTitle Deleter MOD to replace the channel IDs with channel names (put database.txt at the root of the SD card)
  • Ocarina works on channels
  • ELF/DOL loading from geckoload now works
  • Optionally the directory data/gecko can contain the codes folder, patch folder, gameconfig.txt, config.dat, and background.png instead of the root of the SD card
  • GC memory cards are no longer detected as a USB Gecko
  • Changed how exit works; if a loader other than the homebrew channel was used (or an old version of the HBC) it will return to the system menu
  • Fixed a text overlapping bug that would happen if a disc error occurs and Ocarina is on

Download from the Download page or via usbgecko.com!

Gecko 1.8

April 15, 2009 – 9:39

Well, it always makes happy to be able to post something like this. But! Gecko 1.8 is out - not by Nuke directly but by brkirch this time! And things have majorly changed.. just to point out some stuff:

  • New interface with customizable background and.. bubbles^^
  • New game hook types to raise compatibility
  • New code types - now including region free codes!
  • Gecko patch file format
  • And more.. visit the forums to get the complete list

Visit the download page to grab it!

Alongside with the new Gecko, some additions (though minor) had to be made to WiiRd which also got an update then. Visit the download page to grab it. The changes are minimal admittedly:

  • Limited memory 2 search range to 93400000. Before it was 93800000 which worked with IOS36 in several cases however, the new Gecko uses the game IOS which in many cases will limit to 93400000. If you seriously require to access areas above 93400000, please read the console documentation about the “adebug” command!
  • Updated version number to 0.9.3 - wow
  • Interface fixes for WiiRd GUI - there shouldn’t be any cut off edges anymore, no matter what screen layout you use. Additionally: Windows XP/Vista style buttons if XP/Vista layouts are enabled (does not break backwards compatibility to Windows 2000!)

Source code packages for WiiRd have also been updated! The source code of Gecko 1.8 won’t be released because the apploaders and code handlers of Gecko OS have been used in piracy loaders to raise game compatibility or allow cheating!

Nintendo WFC ban

March 22, 2009 – 10:16

So, in recent times many people reported about being blocked from Nintendo Wi-Fi connection. The appearing error code is 20102. This error code has been reported by numerous people who admitted they did hack online. So far there is no known case of people who did not have in global or continental matches about being banned. In case you are banned I would ask you to report some banning data either in our forums or comment marcan’s post at the Hackmii blog.

As usual.. the regular rules from the forum have to be repeated: online cheating is allowed to a certain extent: codes giving you an advantage over other players (like hard-setting a certain item in Mario Kart Wii) - also codes which could be easily manipulated to give you an advantage - are FORBIDDEN! This rule was intact even in the old USB Gecko forums, there are no plans to change that rule for now! The only exception to this rule are games which require both sides (meaning you and all other players) having to enable codes. These codes would only work in friend matches anyway!

So far it seems that Nintendo only monitors public (global and continental) matches! I admit the truth I hacked in private matches but all other players were aware of it. I can still play!

The official Nintendo statement to the error message can by the way be found at nintendo.com!

So report yourself!

Enough of that

Okay.. now it’s kinda the last try..

External hosting try 1.. account suspended after 24 hours
External hosting try 2.. page blank after 24 hours

Result: No external hosting anymore.. http://wiird.l0nk.org/forum
Until the next hacking attempt.. I am fed up! Finally!

Forums with a new host

March 3, 2009 – 8:20

So well.. the forums are hosted on a new server. There are quite a few reasons why it is on a new server mainly for security. On this server I am also hosting memory dumps for hackers and such and unfortunately this area was also abused by crackers to attack the forum. Therefore.. thanks to AlexLH for hosting. On admin side and such nothing much has changed.

The new URL is: http://wiird.0rangechicken.com/

Edit: I know the forums currently give an error message. Please be patient, the forums will be again moved to another place, the new host didn’t like us. Things will get better.. promise!

Kudos to Nuke

February 26, 2009 – 17:28

Hi people,

today I address to you in a post I hoped to never do. What djfade wrote at a comment seems true. While I didn’t  see the post, I googled around today because I wanted to contact Nuke on a status update - I was also wondering why things took longer than expected. And well.. “Undelivered mail returned to sender” on Nuke’s Wii based e-mail addresses. I now contacted some other addresses which I am not sure if I am able to reach him with. In any case.

Nuke, if you’re reading this: I and I guess many other people - we won’t stand stand in your way. It hurts me personally to see you passing but things probably have to be taken as they come - it it still sad to admit the truth.

You’ve done things for the scene noone else would have been capable of. There is no device like the USB Gecko. Without your help, WiiRd wouldn’t exist - without it, Wii hacking wouldn’t be where it is now. And I guess I may also say: Without it Wii homebrew wouldn’t either be where it is as of now! Kudos to you!

And on another note: you are an awesome guy in general - the rare chats with you were nice, funny and everything.

You will be missed - by many.

Yours,
Link!

-   comments addressed to Nuke will be copied into this blog entry, so feel free to comment   -

Jassim: if gecko os didnt exist, i would never have gotten homebrew (along with most members at the wiird community) thanks nuke, the homebrew community is really sucking without you so please do come back.

and thank you

djdynamite123: Very true with what’s been said above, I only came into this side of homebrew in august 08 as I started to play my wii again and all i got was 001 and error after updating to 3.3v1, then i was linked to homebrew via my brother, then i found “region free” geckoOS my most used app.
Such a shame, this scene is a joke, it’s like no other. pathetic.
Good Look Nuke :)

memorris: Well Nuke it has been fun having you around. I thank you for all your hard work on the software for the USB Gecko. I have learned a lot from you and the usbgecko community that i am very grateful for.I would of never installed or used Homebrew. if it was not for the usbgecko. All of the Homebrew owes you a lot for what you have done thank you.
I agree with all the comments above especially by djdynamite 123
this scene is a joke there are too many ass holes in it.
If you have left i wish you well and all the best for the future.
If not well i still appreciate all that you have done
thank you Nuke
all the best memeorris

hetoan2: Nuke,
You can’t leave the scene.
People love your work and Gecko OS has pretty much made the homebrew scene what it is today. People don’t give you the respect you deserve, but because of you there is a community of 2,000+ people who love codes. Weather it’s making codes, or just using them we all came together because of Gecko OS. You shouldn’t let one asshole convince you to leave the scene. We were all looking forward to Gecko 2.0 and even if you dont release it we’d love to see you back. Even if you decide not to release it or ever work on it again I still think that you should hang around.

If you don’t wish to host the forums I will buy my own site and vBulletin board with your permission so that I can host wiiRD forums once again. I’m glad you were going to take over the forums, but If you are going to leave the scene please make a formal announcement of some kind to let us know.

I already have a backup of the wiiRD forums so just give me the word and i’ll start hosting it myself :( (probably not as good as it could be though)

sarkwalvein: @Nuke: I still hope you come back to the scene… I’ve really enjoyed hacking around with the usbgecko and geckoos… And geckoos 2.0 was my most awaited homebrew release…

Anyway, thanks for everything… And good luck whatever road you choose to follow…

ZiT:Nuke,

A lot of fans of Nuke are in Japan.
Moreover, I am one person in that.

It is a thing without the method though used for the thing that GeckoOS of Nuke doesn’t anticipate.

A completeness and expensive product becomes good and evil depending on the user.

However, it is a thing without the method.

I want you to carry out your road Nuke.

Please revive!!!

We are waiting sincerely for your revival!!!!

Romaap:I have nothing to add.

Nuke, you are great.
Thanks for everything you’ve done so far.
I hope you’ll come back but it’s you own choice.

ssbbdude57: Well, if it wernt for Nuke i wouldnt of gotten Homebrew casue i really wanted to use/make hacks, so thanks for even making this possible. Well it is a shame to see this end so quickly =[ well overall Thanks Nuke…Thanks for everythink

Y.S.: @Nuke

Thank you for all your hard work.

I remember when I first sent you an e-mail
about the code handler.
I was so proud that the code handler included
with your Gecko RF.

Thanks again!

picano: What everyone else said!

I got my USB Gecko long before I had any idea how to properly utilize it… still don’t really. But, without your device I wouldn’t be enjoying Brawl hacking as much as I do now!

Sure… I still can’t make a halfway decent code but… thanks to your stuff, and help from Igglyboo, I’m making Brawl textures ever chance I get!

agrs700: Nuke, you can’t leave us as this…

Everyone is waiting for gecko 2.0 and the forums. If you have quitted the scene it’d be coz of personal problems

PS: I suspect nintendo is behind this

Link reply: Nuke mentioned on the tehskeen.com forums that one of the main problems will be the coming up BootMii - Team Twiizers is trying to realize IOS free program code which would render Gecko OS unusable - as BootMii is not out, I cannot say that it will happen like this - on some note however, Nuke is kinda correct in the way a certain team is pretending as if they are the rulers of Wii homebrew (yes, they are awesome coders and we certainly wouldn’t be where we are now without them).

Blaster99: Nuke,

please do not let this great project die. There are better ways of getting a timeout.
Thanks to you we are what we are now: a great community.

Please think about your decision. We are looking forward to welcoming you back :)

Thanks for everything

New WiiRd console version

November 23, 2008 – 15:01

It has been a long time…

anyway.. now the console client is at 0.9.2 . And it brings some new things:

  • 2 new commands: multipeek and watchlist (preparation for a planned GUI feature which however aren’t completely decided yet)
  • debug levels: allows accessing addresses without exceptions (on your own risk!) (adebug command)
  • MAJOR BUG FIX: many users complained why the GUI sometmes stopped working.. looking at the console it shows some random command like “gamestatus” or “version”. This was a threading issue in the console which is fixed now - even the GUI should therefore operate much more stable.
  • documentation on both new commands and adebug updated

Additionally the sources have been uploaded again and these are again compilable under Linux (both big and little endian).

The GUI has not changed, the interface has not changed, nothing on Wii side has changed, it’s only a roundup of the console - and well also the base for some new GUI features - normally I wouldn’t release such a version now but as it fixes a major major bug of the old version, I decided to do anyway!

Downloads as usual in the Download section!

All that update mess

November 19, 2008 – 12:06

Currently, if you want to use WiiRd and/or Gecko OS, updating to Wii 3.4 is not recommendable.

Edit: by now, the Twilight Hack has been renewed and works with 3.4 again!
