I'm running 4.2U, I have homebrew running, and I can use Ocarina or Gecko OS to apply cheats, the only compatibility issue that I "might" be having with it, is that I can not Hack Gamecube games with my USB Gecko. Everything else but that is fine.

Hacking is not always about ruining the game for others, its about making the game funner and seeing what is possible and what is not.

It should work, but why would you update?
It is just harder to make homebrew work again and you don't get anything from updating, it has no additional features.

There are some unofficial shop channel updaters, you can find them on wiibrew.org
You can block the updates by installing Preloader or by loading them through Gecko.

I wish Nintendo  Evil  would simply give up and acknowledge the fact that there will always be homebrewers, Creating codes, pirateing channels, etc. Do not underestimate the power of gecko, or for that matter, Homebrew!  Smiley

I'm still at System Menu 3.something. What would be the best way to update if I want to have the 4.0 version's SD card upgrade functionality for more space/better card reading?

You know that the 4.0 update only provides sdhc support for the system menu? That includes VC/WiiWare from sd card, and backups of saves and channels on sd card, BUT NOT any games that use sd cards themselves(SSBB and music games). For homebrew it does not matter which system menu you have installed in order to be able to use sdhc cards, that depends on the program itself and maybe also on the IOS it's using.

I don't trust sdhc cards anyways, nothing has 100% sdhc compatibility, and there are different compatibilies for almost everything that uses them. HBC, regular homebrew, BootMii and system menu are all compatible to different sdhc cards.

Is it really possible that my wii could automatically update without it even asking if you want 4.2 and me confirming it? if so, can it do that when its off and wiiconnect24 is on as well? If that is true i am very lucky it hasn't already automatically updated, cause i have accidently left it on all night before (with the orange light on) I never ever want nintendos crappy 4.2 homebrew killer with has no new features other than killing homebrew and possibly bricking my wii! Evil I am at 4.1 and that is the highest i go. Smiley

Hmm... I see. I guess that doesn't matter then.
