November 19, 2008 – 12:06

Currently, if you want to use WiiRd and/or Gecko OS, updating to Wii 3.4 is not recommendable.

Just to let me re-cap

October 15, 2008 – 8:46

Ocarina is not supported anymore.
Its functionality is now part of Gecko OS.
You do not need extra hardware to run Gecko OS.
You can get Gecko OS in the download area here or at http://www.usbgecko.com

USB Gecko owners get much more functionality (Memory card backup, Game dumping, MP3 playback and even more). I just posted the relevant functions for this community, however USB Gecko capabilities are endless!

I recommend every interested user to get one.. even cheating gets more elegant with it (disable and enable cheats in real-time).

Forums

September 26, 2008 – 9:03

All the time our more or less “official” forum were the USB Gecko forums. The main reason we didn’t do any was actually because we didn’t want to compete with them over there - well, the USB Gecko forums were closed now. Kudos to Nuke for his management over there besides developing USB Gecko software and Gecko OS. And a big thank you for giving over the database. Due to multiple reasons the forums isn’t called “USB Gecko forums” anymore - mostly because we really want to be officially not connected there. The new forum is mainly for Wii cheating which is kinda the way the USB Gecko forums also went - meant for developers and users of the USB Gecko but in the end it turned out to be a place where people just talked about cheating.

This will continue here! Click the forums link above - if you’re coming from the USB Gecko forums - all your account data still works!

Update roll-up

September 16, 2008 – 15:58

Well, quite a few things have changed.. so well.. here comes the update roll-up.

First of all: new versions of WiiRd are done - and the source code for WiiRd is also availible and it is written so that it the console program of it can be compiled using Linux. Also the disassembler was a litle improved using a modified version of vdappc - now even Gekko specific assembly commands are supported.

Also the code manager was updated - I have even released the source code for that one though compilation on Linux like requested in comments is gonna be hard (I wonder - the comment said it wouldn’t work in wine - I tested it, it worked.. strange). Anyway.. source code is there (even though it’s from a little older version, I can hardly give out the current source codes for secret plans)! New additions are: support for line breaks in comments as well as a warnnig if too many codes are active (the warning is not yet in the publically released source codes).

And Ocarina.. has been taken out of the download area.. Please use at least Gecko OS 1.06F01 instead - Gecko OS includes Ocarina and several cool features for users who are interested in playing imports - as Gecko OS is far superior, Ocarina on Wii side will be discontinued - live with it, take the better software!

So.. visit the download section!

Thank you for over-using our traffic

August 14, 2008 – 9:28

Okay! That was kinda stupid whoever did it. Someone whose IP I won’t mention downloaded Ocarina yesterday and before yesterday like 200 million times at once. While I do not care about people who accidently delete the package to redownload, that one strained the server traffic. To make it short:

The result is 840 Gigs of used traffic.. and now the provider limited the bandwidth. Almighty 1 GBit/s have been lowered to 10 MBit/s for the rest of the month! So if people think the download would be slow.. you know who to thank!

Edit: Oh and I am pretty sure this was done on purpose.. you wanted to purge a “Traffic limit exceeded” message so that WiiRd/Ocarina get unavailible? Okay.. lemme just tell you that: this server’s provider offers a traffic flatrate.. they just toggle download speeds.. so you successfully toggled the max download speed to 10 MBit/s, feel proud of yourself.. and btw: if you’re now trying to get the server speed down by multiple connection, forget about it.. the server has a network management so that if two IPs connect both of them get 5 MBit/s (of course if one user has a less lower bandwidth then the fast user won’t be slowed down).. no matter how many connections you open. So feel free to continue: this page won’t disappear!

Ocarina

July 29, 2008 – 9:08

Ocarina is the stand-alone code handler - whoops.. two posts later I said it wouldn’t come. Yes, that’s what I was convinced of. But here it is…

Ocarina is a very simple Wii application for your homebrew channel. What it does? Start a game.. but there’s a twist of course.

Ocarina checks the GAME ID.. like RZDP01 for Zelda Twilight Princess (PAL). Then it checks the inserted SD card whether it can find a cheat code file for that game: in this case it would have to be name [sd]:\codes\rzdp01.gct .

To create GCT files.. a PC application is bundled in the package. This application is coming with 2 example files. rsbe.txt and rsbp.txt (Smash Brothers NTSC-U and PAL respectively). Using the File menu you can open, them and select the cheats you want.
Note that unlike an Action Replay you can modify codes with XXXXXXXX inside them.. it will always ask you to store modifications to its application memory I added this question so that people do not cry if a code is messed up - the actual cheat code file will not be modified until you save it in the app.

Once you’re done selecting codes: click on “Export to GCT”… and the rest should be pretty straight forward! Insert your SD card.

The package is seperated in a PC folder (PC client) and HBC (Homebrew channel)… put the stuff in its folders.. and they’re happy!

Some release notes:
-Due to some bugs, games cannot access SD cards anymore when they are booted via Ocarina.. Brawlers who do stage builder stuff or screenshots.. please store them into your Wii memory and copy them over!
